15 January 2026
University of Granada
On 15 January 2026, the seminar titled “Climate Change, Migration and the Mediterranean” was held within the framework of the TRACHMED Project at the University of Granada.
The seminar brought together scholars and participants to critically examine the interconnected challenges shaping the Mediterranean region, with a particular focus on the nexus between climate change, migration, and geopolitical dynamics.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Ronaldo Munck, who explored climate change and migration beyond dominant policy and security-centered narratives. His presentation addressed issues such as securitization, legal protection frameworks, geopolitics, and global power relations. The Mediterranean was conceptualized not merely as a geographical area, but as a dynamic crossroads of cultures, histories, and transnational processes.
The seminar also benefited from interdisciplinary contributions from experts in Sociology and International Law, further enriching the discussion on one of the most pressing global challenges of our time.
Organized as part of the EU-funded TRACHMED Project, the event contributed to the project’s broader objectives of examining climate change, migration, forced displacement, and energy insecurity in the Mediterranean region.
