Migration Conference – TRACHMED x Marmara Global Diplomacy Club

8 January 2026
Marmara University, Faculty of Political Sciences – Conference Hall
On 8 January 2026, a joint conference was organized within the framework of the TRACHMED Project in collaboration with the Global Diplomacy Club at Marmara University.
Titled “Citizenship, War, and Displacement: Diaspora Activism and Forced Migration in a Global Context,” the conference brought together scholars, researchers, and undergraduate and graduate students for an in-depth discussion on forced migration, citizenship politics, and diaspora-led activism under conditions of war and political repression.
The event featured the following speakers:
- Dr. Natalie Brinham (University of Bristol), who addressed citizenship stripping, forced migration, and Rohingya resistance.
- Dr. Ekaterina Vorobeva (Research Centre for East European Studies, University of Bremen), who examined diaspora-specific dynamics of Russian anti-war activism in Turkey.
The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Suna Gülfer Ihlamur Öner (Marmara University).
The discussion provided rich comparative insights, particularly focusing on Rohingya refugees and Russian anti-war activists in Turkey, and fostered an engaging exchange with participants. The event contributed to TRACHMED’s broader objective of fostering critical dialogue on migration, displacement, and transnational political engagement.
We extend our sincere thanks to the speakers, moderator, partner student organization, and all participants for their valuable contributions.
