Conference – Gaza War and Regional Implications

20 November 2025
University of Granada
On 20 November 2025, the Universidad de Granada hosted a conference delivered by Samir Aita, President of Le Cercle des Économistes Arabes, within the framework of the TRACHMED Project in collaboration with Le Cercle des Économistes Arabes.
The conference addressed the profound and multilayered impact of the Gaza war and genocide, examining not only its effects on Gaza itself but also its broader repercussions across the region, including the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria. The event convened scholars, researchers, and students to explore how these geopolitical upheavals are transforming regional structures and shaping patterns of displacement and migration.
Key themes discussed at the conference included:
- The catastrophic human cost of the war in Gaza, including mass displacement, severe destruction of housing, environmental devastation, and collapse of livelihoods.
- Escalating repercussions in the West Bank and South Lebanon, and the shifting socio-political dynamics in these contexts.
- How the evolving situation in Syria, including developments following the Assad regime’s trajectory is reshaping internal and regional migration patterns.
- The broader reconfiguration of power relations in the Levant and its implications for regional and global actors.
Building on developments following the Gaza ceasefire, Samir Aita examined how these interconnected crises are ushering in a major and unprecedented transformation with long-term consequences for the societies of the Levant.
We extend our sincere thanks to Samir Aita and the University of Granada for their valuable contributions to this insightful and timely discussion.
