5 November 2025
Marmara University, Faculty of Political Sciences (Room 320)
On 5 November 2025, Marmara University hosted the Joint Methodology Workshop within the framework of the Horizon Europe projects TRACHMED, ORCA, and MARS.
The workshop brought together researchers and project coordinators from multiple EU-funded initiatives to exchange insights on innovative research methodologies, ethical fieldwork practices, and cross-country data collection experiences. The event provided a valuable platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration across projects working on migration, mobility, and transnational challenges.
The program opened with welcoming remarks by Prof. Dr. Suna Gülfer Ihlamur Öner and Prof. Dr. Erhan Doğan(Marmara University).
The workshop sessions addressed a range of methodological and ethical themes, including:
- Collecting data with hard-to-reach social groups and building trust within migrant communities (Ekaterina Vorobeva)
- Multi-sited and sequential explanatory mixed methods approaches to translocality (John Narh)
- Visual tools for mapping mobility and interviewing highly mobile populations (Aleksandr Motin)
- Ethical and practical perspectives on safeguarding research participants (Dimitri Bettoni)
- Oral histories, documentary methods, and mobile research practices (Natalie Brinham)
The workshop concluded with a roundtable discussion, fostering collective reflection on methodological innovation and ethical responsibility in transnational research.
We extend our sincere thanks to all speakers, contributors, and participants for making this workshop a meaningful and productive academic exchange.
